mitosis Flashcards
what is mitosis
mitosis produces two daughter cells that are identical to the parent cell. this is the type of cell division involved in growth and repair of the body
different stages of mitosis
interphase -
chromosomes replicate to have two chromosomes
prophase-
replicated chromosomes and their chromatids become visible
metaphase -
replicated chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell
anaphase-
the chromatids seperate and move to opposite poles of the cells
telophase-
two nuclei form, each with the same number of chromosomes as the parent
what is meiosis
meiosis is the process of the cell division that produces the gametes sperm and eggs
stages of meiosis
metaphase 1
replicated chromosomes form homologous pairs attached to spindle fibres and lined up in middle
anaphase 1
one replicated chromosome of each pair moves to each pole
telophase 1
two cells are formed each with one replicated chromosome
metaphase 11
chromosomes line up on the equator attached to spiel fibres
anaphase 11
chromatids seperate and move to poles
telophase 11
four cells result with one copy of each chromosome they are haploid gametes
centromere
the point on a chromosome where the two chromatids are joined together
gametes
sperm and eggs
genetically modified
having the genes changed
genotype
genetic information carried by and individual
sex lined genes
genes prensent on the sex chromosome
genetics
genetics is the study of inherited characterises called traits. in natural population all the individuals are genetically different- they have different traits. however some patterns of inheritance of these traits can be identified
heredity
the passing of physical or mental characteristics genetically form one generation to another
gene
a section of dan that carries the genetic cod4 for a particular characteristics
allele
different forms of the same gene located at the same point on the homologous chromosomes
homozygous
having two identical alleles on the homologous chromosomes
heterozygous
having two different alleles oh a homologous chromosome
