Mitosis Flashcards
stages
prophase prometaphase metaphase anaphase telophase
prophase
chromosomes begin to condense and become visible in the nucleus
prometaphase
chromosomes shorten and thicken and condense more
spindle fibers attach to kinetochores
nuclear membrane disappears
metaphase
chromosomes line up in the center of the cell
anaphase
chromosomes split (sister chromatids go separate ways)
each sister chromatid is now considered its own chromosome
telophase
the chromosomes in two separate sets start to decondense
after this they will be invisible in the daughter cells
cytokinesis
microfilaments tighten around the cell and pinch it into 2
nuclear membranes reform in daughter cells and chromosomes decondense
in plants, after this, a cell wall still has to grow between daughter cells
mitosis has __ DNA replication followed by __ cell division
