Mitosis Flashcards
After cell division each daughter cell has the same what?
Same amount of DNA
DNA & proteins make up what in eukaryotic cells?
Chromosomes
What types of eukaryotic cells undergo mitosis?
Single celled and multicellular
What types of prokaryotic cells undergo mitosis?
Asexual and somatic cells
What happens in interphase?
G1 (Gap)- Cell grows
S (Synthesis)- DNA is replicated
G2 (Second Gap)- Preparation for division
What happens in prophase?
- Chromosomes condense
- Centrioles start to move to opposite poles
- Nuclear envelope breaks down
What happens in metaphase?
- Homozygous chromosomes align on the cells equator in a single file line
- Spindle fibers attach at centromeres
What happens in anaphase?
Sister chromatids are pulled apart and moved towards opposite poles
What happens in telophase?
- Chromosomes return to threadlike forms
- New nuclear membrane forms
- Two nuclei form, one in each new cell
- Cytokinesis–division of cytoplasm
Define: Cleavage Furrow
Depression forms at cell’s midsection (ANIMAL CELLS)
Define: Cell Plate
Cytokinesis in plants, vesicles fuse.
