Mitosis Flashcards
What does mitosis produce
2 genetically identical diploid daughter cells
What happens in interphase : g1 s g2
Cell is growing and dna is replicated
G1: cell elongates and new proteins are made
S: cell replicated dna
G2: cells elongates further and cell checks for errors
What are the 3 stages of mitosis
Mitosis
Interphase
Cytokinesis
3 reasons why mitosis is important
Growth
Repair
Reporduction
What happens in prophase:
- chromatin
- membrane
- fibres
- migrate
Chromatin condensed into chromosomes
Nuclear membrane is breaking down
Spindle fibres appear
Centrioles migrate to poles of cell
What happens in metaphase
Chromosomes become visible
Chromosomes align at equator
Spindle fibres attached to centromeres
What happens at anaphase
Sister chromatids move to poles
Spindle fibres shorten
Centromeres shorten and split
What happens at telophase
Spindle fibres disappear
2 groups of chromosomes uncoil
Nuclear membrane reforms
What happens at cytokinesis
Cell membrane and cytoplasm split into two
