what is the 1st stage of mitosis?
interphase
what is the 2nd stage of mitosis?
prophase
what is the 3rd stage of mitosis?
metaphase
what is the 4th stage of mitosis?
anaphase
what is the 5th stage of mitosis
telophase
what is the 6th stage of mitosis?
cytokinesis
what happens during interphase?
the cell makes extra cellular parts (mitochondira and ribosmes)
what happens during prophase?
the nucleus starts to break down and spindle fibres appear
what happens during metaphase?
the chromosomes line up on the spindle fibres across the middle of the cell
what happens during ananphase?
the chromosome copies are separated and moved to either end of the cell on spindle fibres
what happens during telophase?
a membrane forms around each set of chromosomes to form nuclei
what happens during cytokinesis?
the cell surface membrane forms to separate the two cells
where does mitosis happen?
most of the cells in the body divide by mitosis
what organisms can reproduce through mitosis?
aphids, yeast and the malaria parasite
what happens if mitosis goes wrong?
if the cell begin to divide uncontrollably - this is cancer
