  • Proteins and organelles accumulate in the cytoplasm

  • Volume of the cytoplasm increases at a faster rate than surface area of the plasma membrane

Why does the Plasma membrane become inadequate?

A

Cells absorb nutrients and excrete wastes in the plasma membrane, but as the cytoplasm’s volume increases, the materials have to pass through the cytoplasm instead, making the plasma membrane inadequate.
