Cell Cycle Flashcards
A percentage for the cell cycle is 100%, how many stages are in the cell cycle and how much percent do they take?
2 Stages, Interphase and Cell division. 90% Interphase, 10% Cell Division
What happens during the interphase stage?
1.) Growth
2.) Regular metabolic activities
3.) Preparing for duplication of chromosomes
What happens during the cell division stage?
1.) Mitosis - division of genetic material
2.) Cytokinesis - the division of the cytoplasm and organelles.
What happens to genetic material going towards cell division and back to interphase
Genetic material condenses when going to cell division and genetic material decondenses when going to interphase.
Three stages of Interphase
1.) G1
2.) S
3.) G2
4.) Mitosis/Cytokinesis
What happens during G1 of interphase?
G1 also known as Growth 1 is where cells grow and new organelles are made.
What happens during S phase of interphase?
S also known as synthesis is where genetic material gets duplicated and gives daughter cells a full set of instructions.
What happens during G2 of interphase?
G2 , also known as Growth 2 is where cells grow again and prepare for cell division
What is G0?
Where cells that are not actively dividing go, sometimes cells go into G0 and never divide again, they are considered to be terminally differentiated.
