Q

What is the Interphase and it’s three phases?

A

The Interphase refers to the first phase of the Cell Cycle, which increases causes the Cell to grow in size and prepares for DNA replication

  1. G1 Phase: The Cell grows larger in size and synthesizes protein, whilst maintaining normal function
  2. S Phase: DNA Replication occurs
  3. G2 Phase: The Cell continues to grow and synthesizes proteins necessary for Division

Q

What is the Mitotic Phase?

A

A multi step process that works toward aligning duplicated chromosomes, separating them, and eventually splitting up the cell to two new daughter cells

A
  1. Prophase: Cell prepares to divide, where chromosomes are made visible and condensed in the middle
  2. Prometaphase: Occurs between Prophase and Metaphase, the nuclear envelope breaks down and chromosomes begin to align themselves
  3. Metaphase: Chromosomes align themselves in the middle
  4. Anaphase: Cell elongates as sister chromatids begin splitting apart
  5. Telophase: Final phase of Mitosis where the first three stages of Mitotic Phase are reversed
