Mitosis Flashcards
Prophase
-The nuclear envelope fragments separate so the chromosomes can separate, the
-centrosomes move to opposite poles of the cell and spindle fibers begin to form
-chromatin condenses to form chromosomes
Metaphase
- the chromosomes line up in single file in middle of cell
-the spindle fibers attach to the chromosomes at the kinetochore (centromere region)
Anaphase
-the cell starts stretching and the spindle fibers (microtubules) start shortening
-the sister chromatids are pulled apart
(for a brief period there are double the amount of chromosomes in each cell)
Telophase
two nuclear envelopes reform, in which the chromosomes uncoil into chromatin
-the cell membrane begins to pinch
-spindles disintigrate
Cytokinesis
the cytoplasm itself splits, forming two daughter cells
4 stages of mitosis
PMAT, Prophase, metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
difference in cytokinesis with animals and plants
in animal cells, the membrane pinches in the center until seperated to form its daughter cells.
in plant its different bc of plant wall so it forms a cell plate (in between the 2 nuclei) which actually divides the cell in 2
