mitosis Flashcards
prophase
chromatin threads condense and becomes visible as pairs of chromatids, the centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell, spindle fibres form
metaphase
chromatids pairs move to the centre of the cell and line up along the equator of the cell, the centromere of each pair is attached to the spindle fibre
anaphase
spindle fibres contract, splitting the centromere and pulling sister chromatids to opposite ends of the cell, the former chromatid is called chromosomes
telophase
two sets of chromosomes densely packed together at either end of cell, a new nuclear membrane forms producing two identical nuclei,
cytokinesis
the cytoplasm divides and the organelles evenly distribute themselves before separating into two daughter cells
cytokinesis in animal cell
cleavage furrows develop, pinches plasma membrane
cytokinesis in plant cells
cell plate forms at the equator
