eukaryotic cell cycle Flashcards
interphase
the cell synthesis of the necessary DNA, proteins, and organelles required for growth and replication
DNA strands are loose and chromosomes are long and unwound
G1
the cell grows by increasing the volume of cytosol, synthesising proteins for DNA replication, replicating organelles
synthesis phase
the cell replicates its DNA turning one chromosome into tow genetically identical sister chromatids, after this phase the cells become diploid cells
G2
the last phase of interphase, the cell continues to grow and prepare, by increasing volume of cytosol and synthesising proteins in preparation for mitosis
G0
cells which are not required to replicate go to this phase. quiescent cells have the ability to re-enter the cell cycle, terminally differentiated cells remain in G0 indefinitely
