Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is Mitosis for?
A
- Growth of the organism
- Repair of tissues
- replacement of old cells
4.Asexual reproduction
2
Q
What are the main stages in order?
A
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase
- Telophase
3
Q
What occurs in prophase?
A
- Chromosomes condense and become visible.
Consisting of two chromatids joined by a centromere.
4
Q
What occurs in metaphase?
A
- Chromosomes align at equator attached to spindle by centromere
5
Q
What occurs in anaphase?
A
- Centromere splits and chromatids separate, the chromatids move to opposite poles by contracting of spindle fibres.
6
Q
What occurs in telophase?
A
- Chromosomes uncoil and nuclear envelope forms around the chromosomes at either end.
7
Q
What occurs during cytogenesis?
A
Cytoplasm divides via cleavage.
8
Q
What occurs during interphase?
A
DNA replicates .
9
Q
What are the stages within interphase?
A
- G1- Growth
S- Replication of DNA
G2- Checking
10
Q
What checks occur during G1 phase?
A
- Chromosomes are checked for damage, if there is damage then cell does not move into s phase until repairs made.
11
Q
What checks occur during S phase ?
A
Chromosomes are checked if they have been replicated, if not all have been replicated cell cycle stops.
12
Q
what checks occur in G2 Phase?
A
An additional check for DNA damage occurs after replication, cell cycle delayed.
13
Q
What checks occur during metaphase?
A
- A final check determines wether the chromosomes are corrrectly attached to spindle fibres prior to anaphase.
