A missing person is:

A

Any person who is reported missing to the police
AND
Whose whereabouts are unknown
AND
There are fears for their safety, or concerns for the welfare of that person

Fears for safety:

A

Z - zones of safety (when the person is outside their usual surroundings and is unable to cope)
A - age (small children and elderly)
C - circumstances (fears arise if they have gone missing in circumstances that are:
S - suspicious
U - unusual
D - dangerous)

Information to Obtain for a Missing Person:

A
  • full details
  • physical appearance
  • state of health (physical and mental)
  • when, where and by whom the person was last seen
  • what the person was wearing
  • where they might have gone
  • obtain names and addresses of friends and associates
  • possible reasons for disappearance
  • whether the person has gone missing before
  • what enquiries friends or family have already made to locate the person
  • obtain a photograph
