strength:there is research support demonstrating the negative impact of post event discussion

A

E:Gabbert showed participants a video of a robbery. each video was filmed from different angles so some details weren’t visible to all. the researchers found that when the participants conferred b before giving a testimony ,71% mistakenly recalled the event differently to what they were initially shown in the footage. this demonstrated the power of post event discussion that can decrease the accuracy of ETW. Gabbert concluded that the participants experienced memory conformity , but isn’t obvious whether their conformity is result of NSI or ISI .

Q

another strength:its real life implications and applications.

A

E:According to the innocence project (an organisation that uses DNA testing to reexamine cases) eyewitness misidentification is the single greatest cause of wrongful convictions nationwide which plays a role in 75% of convictions proven wrong through DNA examinations.
E:this shows the important implications of research into factors affecting EWT, as it reveals how harmful it is for the justice system to be heavily dependent on eye witness testimonies when they are often misleading. furthermore, research can help improve the legal system and reduce the likelihood of wrongful accusations. a way this can be done is educating jurors in understandg how potentially harmful EWT can be In order for them not to rely too much on EWT when making the final judgement. moreover, research helps benefit the economy Because in the event of wrongful convicting a person has huge compensation financial costs.
L:therefore research has the potential to benefit society by making fair adjustments to the justice system.
