What is diegetic sound?
In the story, characters can hear the noise. For example, dialogue between one another. Both the audience and the story can hear diegetic sound
What is non diegetic sound?
Sound only the audience can hear
What is contrapuntal sound?
Music/sound that contrasts the film scene
What is parallel sound?
Sound that complements the film scene
What is a dutch tilt?
Image breaks the rule of thirds and creates an uneasy atmosphere
What is an eye level shot?
Natural shot, taken at eye level as if you’re looking at it
What is a choker? Where would it most commonly be used?
Face shot where the forehead and chin is usually cut off. It is most commonly used in horror films to emphasise fear and rage
What is a full shot?
A full view from head to toe
What is an extreme long shot?
A view from a great distance in which people appear as small dots
What is a long shot?
An image shot from a considerable distance so that people can still appear as distinct shapes
What are 2 key characteristics of setting and props?
Highly controlled
Authentic and realistic
What can costume, hair and makeup reveal about a character?
- Personality
- Social status
- Time period
- What part they play
What is overdubbing?
Adding natural sound after filming, it is classed as diegetic
What is a foley artist?
Creating all the sound effects for a film (stabbing, slapping etc.)
What is score?
A compiled playlist which plays throughout the film
