- everything the audience can see
- literally means staging a scene through the arful arrangement of actors, scenery, lighting, and props

Composition
the visual arrangement of the objects, actors within the frame space
Types of Compositions
Foreground, middleground, and background
Loose Framing
- leaving empty space around subject in frame
- conveys openness and continuity of visible space and to imply off screen space
Tight Framing
A visual effect created when the subject in the frame is restricted by the objects or the physical properties of the set
Define the general term of blocking
The arrangement and moving of characters within the single physical space of mise-en-scene
Social Blocking
establishes or redfines relationships between characters
Graphic Blocking
Arranging characters or groups according to visual patterns of harmony, conflict, tension
