misc CPT Terms Flashcards
Stretch shortening cycle
Loading muscle eccentrically to prepare for a rapid concentric contraction
Integrated performance paradigm
To move with efficiency, forces must be dampened (eccentric), stabilized (isometric) and accelerated (concentric)
Synergistic dominance
When synergist muscles take over for a week prime mover
Altered muscle length tension, relationships
Muscles resting length is too short for too long, resulting in decreased force amount it can produce
Force couple relationship
Synergistic, action of muscles, working together to produce movement around joint
Principle of specificity (SAID)
Body’s response and adaptation to exercise
Mechanical specificity
Weight and movements placed on body
Neuromuscular specificity
Speed of contraction and exercise selection
Metabolic specificity
Energy demand placed on body
Reciprocal inhibition
When an agonist receives a signal to contract its functional antagonist also receives a stop signal allowing it to lengthen
Muscle imbalance
Muscles on each side of joint have altered length tension relationships
Motor behavior
Motor response to internal and external environmental stimuli
Motor control
How the cns uses internal and external sensory info from past experiences to produce motor response
Motor learning
Integration of motor control processes through practice and experjence leading to permanent ish chance
Motor development
Change in mulled motor behavior over time throughout the life span
