Misc Flashcards
Afferent nerves conduct nerve impulses from
Receptors to CNS (spinal cord)
How to effectors or neurons in general communicate
Using neurotransmitters that diffuse across synaptic clefts
What do efferent motor neurons do
Carry info from brain to PNS
What does length of axon affect
How long an impulse travels not how fast
What is tapered end of spinal cord
Conus medullaris
What’s the roots of spinal nerves hanging inferior live from the inferior end of the spinal cord in the vertebral column?
Cauda equina
What’s extension of pia mater that anchors spinal cord to coccyx
Filum terminale
What nerves does dorsal root hold
Only sensory
What nerves does the ventral root hold?
Only motor nerves
What’s the ventral and dorsal Ramus?
Contains both sensory and motor nerves but travels to front and back of body
What is posterior white columns
Dorsal funiculus and is where first order sensory neurons for touch and pressure travel to before terminating at the dorsal column nuclei in the lower medullar
What does central canal contain
CSF
What is located in anterior grey horns
Cell bodies of motor neurons
What’s located in lateral grey horns
Autonomic motor neurons
What’s located in dorsal grey horns
Sensory neurons cell bodies
What’s part of diencephalon
hypothalamus, thalamus, subthalamus, epithalamus
Does cerebellum coordinate movement
Yes it does not make movement smooth that’s the job of basal ganglia
Cerebellum is ipsilateral so lesion on left side
Results in lesion of left side movement error
Function of brain stem
Transports impulses that carry info
Where’s Meissners and Paccinians located in
M - dermal papillae
P - subcutaneous and submucousal tissue
What does medial lemniscus contain and what does it connect
Has 2nd order sensory neurons and connects gracile and cuneate nuclei to thalamus
Where are cell bodies for upper motor neurons located?
Planning part of cortex / primary motor cortex
medial lemniscal system of discriminative info pathway
1st from periphery then synapses to 2nd at dorsal funiculus at lower medulla (decussation at int arcuate fibres). 3rd synapse at hypothalamus then out through internal capsule to sensory cortex
spinothalamic tract pathway of non-desc information
1st order from periphery and terminates at substantia gelatinosa where synapse occurs (2nd). Decussates at ant. white commisure travels to ventral funiculus and 3rd synapse at thalamus. then rest
What part of the frontal lobe is brocas area in?
Planning or premotor
what fibres do dorsal and ventral root have
dorsal - Carries sensory information from the periphery to spinal cord
ventral - Carries motor information from the spinal cord to the muscles
