- The manager is a reflective, systematic planner

The manager is a reflective, systematic planner
Work is actually done at a fast pace and in between interruptions
They plan while in the middle of daily actions
The manager has no regular work to perform (plan in advance, sit back, relax)
Performs ritual/ceremonial duties, negotiations, processing of soft information
Play a key role in securing external info and passing it to subordinantes
The manager needs aggregated information, which a formal management system best provides
Prefer verbal media, telephone calls and meetings over documents
Management is quickly becoming, a science and a profession
Hardly known what procedures managers use
The information they needs differs but they seek it in the same way (word of mouth)

Responsible for the work of other

Motivates and encourages employees
Liaison
Makes contact outside the vertical chain of command.
Spends time with people inside and outside their units
Sits on outside boards. Lunches with client/suppliers
Monitor
Scans environment for information. Is on the lookout for new ideas
Disseminator
Passes some of the information directly to subordinates, who would otherwise not have access to it
Spokesperson
Sends some information to people outside the unit
Entrepreneur
Manager seeks o improve the unit and adapt it to changing conditions of the environment.
Initiates development projects
