How to minority attempt to change views?
By ISI which results to internalisation.
Describe consistency.
Minority needs to demonstrate it is confident in its view and repeat message overtime so arguement seems powerful.
Describe commitment.
If minority are willing to suffer for their views but still hold them, majority will take them seriously known as the augmentation principle.
Describe flexibility.
They need the ability to appear to consider valid counter arguements and slightly compromise.
Supporting evidence for minority influence?
moscovici: groups of 4 pts and 2 confederates were shown 36 blue slides of different shades in two conditions. In first a consistent minority stated that every slide was green. 32% of pts gave same answer as minority at least once, with wrong answers given by pts on 8.4% of trials. Compared to only 1.25% when minority was inconsistent.
68% DIDNT agree with minority.
