What’s theAgentic state?
Idea that individuals believes they don’t have responsibility for they behaviour as the are the agent of an authority figure.
What’s the autonomous state?
Individuals actions are free form of control.
How will an person with age tic state act?
They feel discomfort as a result of their action and feel they are unable to resist the demands of a person of authority.
What’s legitimacy of authority?
Idea that individuals accept that other individuals who are higher up the social hierarchy should be obeyed. Sense of duty.
How is legitimacy authority learnt?
Learnt through childhood and socialisation processes some relationships with parents/ teachers. Also idea that some people have the right to punish and hard others.
Why is legitimacy authority accepted by most people?
They thinks it’s needed in order for society to function properly.

Milgram research demonstrates power of legitimate authority with professor/experiments occupying a high level in social hierarchy due to extensive education and respect for science as a discipline. Demonstrates agentic state as often pts would agree to continue after he said he was responsible.
