Minor connectors Flashcards
Minor connectors function
1-connect all components (rests, clasps, denture base) to major connector
2-distribute load to all components, over ridge and abutment
Minor connectors types
1-join clasp to major connector
2-join indirect retainer /axillary rest to major connector
3-join denture base to major connector
4-approach arm of gingivally approach clasp
In (join clasp to major connector)
if clasp on abutment near to saddle so minor connector is….
And should be …
proximal plate
Should be: *rigid
*locate on guiding plane (bounded saddle contact 2/3 proximal surface in length, in free end saddle
contact 3mm in length)
In (join clasp to major connector)
if clasp on abutment away from saddle Use…..
And should be
general minor connector ( lingual plate )
Should be
*cross section is half round *relief when cross free gingival margin to avoid trauma
*locate in embrasure ‘‘interdental ‘‘between teeth, never positioned on convex lingual surface of tooth
join denture base to major connector
They are finish line:
Finish line → represent line of demarcation of acrylic or junction between 2 different materials,
(butt joint)
There are 2 finish :
1-internal finish line → obtained by relief on master cast modification.
2-external finish line → obtained by carving of wax pattern on refractory cast.
*in free end saddle → use combined base. so have internal and external finish line (where fitting,
polished surface is acrylic)
*in bounded saddle → use solid base where fitting surface is metallic and polished is acrylic. So
there is only external finish line.
→ saddle is lead wire or beaded or nail head.
(approach arm of gingivally approach clasp)
only minor connector which is flexible due to increase length
all types of minor connector are rigid except
approach arm of gingivally approach clasp is flexible
