Interim denture

A

temporary denture used for short interval of time to provide for:
1-esthetic 2-mastication

Q

Transitional RPD

A

acrylic RPD used with insufficient number of abutment which has poor
periodontal support, when extracted so added to denture till be complete
denture.

Q

abutment is …

biomechanical principle of RPD….

A

tooth that receive component of RPD to give support, retention, stability.

Support→ resistance to tissue ward movement by vertical lodging force
Retention → resistance to tissue away movement by vertical dislodging force
Stability/bracing→ resistance to lateral movements

Q

removable partial denture
Indicated In:

A

1-increase length of edentulous area
2-free end saddle ‘‘no distal abutment ‘
3-excessive bone loss which affect esthetic if use bridge
4-poor periodontal support to abutment
5-crown-root ratio is 1;1
6-for immediate replacement of extracted teeth

Q

objectives of removable partial denture

A

1- preservation of remaining structures

2- restore masticatory efficiency

3-restore esthetic /appearance

4- restore phonetics /speech

Q

Knedy classification

A

Class I → bilateral edentulous area located posterior to remaining natural teeth (bilateral distal extensions )(bilateral distal free end saddle)

Class II → unilateral edentulous area located posterior to remaining natural teeth
(unilateral distal extension )(unilateral distal free end saddle)

Class III → unilateral edentulous area where natural teeth located anterior and posterior
to it. (bounded saddle)

Class IV → single edentulous area, reach ‘‘unilateral’‘ or cross midline ‘‘bilateral’’ located
anterior to remaining natural teeth. (Single mean has no modification)

Q

rules for kennedy classification

A

Rule 1→ classification should follow rather than precede extraction that may alter
original classification.
Rule 2 → the most posterior edentulous area or areas determine classification.
Rule 3 → any additional edentulous area other than these determine classification
consider as modification space and are designed by their number.
Rule 4 → extent of modification not considered, only number of additional edentulous
area.
Rule 5 → no modification in class IV, as any edentulous located posterior to it will
determine the classification.
Rule 6 → if third molar is missed and not replaced (no opposing to it), not consider in
classification.
Rule 7 → if third molar is present and not used as abutment (not receive any
components ), not consider in classification.
Rule 8 → if second molar is missed and not replaced (no opposing to it ), not consider
in classification.

Q

classification depend on distribution of load /support

A

Class I → mucosal or tissue born/supported ,,,,, ex; spoon denture
Class II → tooth born/supported (bounded saddle ‘‘class III, short span class IV’‘ )
Class III → tooth –tissue born /supported (free end saddle’‘class I, II, long span class IV’’)
