Mindsight, Dan Siegel Flashcards
What is the mind?
The mind can be defined, in part, as an embodied and relational process that regulates the flow of energy and information. As one important feature of the mind is a regulatory process, the mind has at least two essential aspects: monitoring and modifying.
What does SNAG stand for?
SNAG, stimulate neuronal activation and growth,
nine middle prefrontal functions
1) regulating our bodies,
2) attuning to others,
3) having emotional balance,
4) calming fear,
5) pausing before acting,
6) having insight and empathy,
7) being moral in our thinking and our actions, and
8) having more access to intuition.
9) ?
What are the five mindfulness traits - Ruth Baer and her colleagues (2006)
1) become more nonjudgmental,
2) develop equanimity,
3) be more aware of what is going on as it is happening, and
4) develop the capacity to label and describe with words our internal world.
5) have more self-observation.
What does Seigal mean by integration?
With integration we have openness of possibility, a fluidity of movement in and out of propensity, probability, and activation, and back again to undefined, open possibility. This is the harmonious flow of a receptive state where we feel joined with others, and ourselves. Integration is at the heart of presence.
Move from reactive to receptive states by promoting integration.
Growth edge
When patterns of chaos and rigidity can be detected and then a particular domain in need of work can be identified. This is the client’s growth edge.
What is presence
Presence is our openness to the unfolding of possibilities.
What is attunement?
Attunement is how we focus our attention on others and take their essence into our own inner world.
