Milling machines Flashcards
What are the different types of milling machines?
universal horizontal milling, plain horizontal milling, knee and column milling, standard vertical, ram type vertical milling machine
When do you tighten the backlash eliminator?
When you are climb milling to ensure the part does not get pulled into the cutter
what are the shank styles on cutters
Straight, Weldon, Threaded, Double ended
What are the two fluted end mills good for?
They are good for plunge cutting as the cutting edges go to the middle, also good for softer material and heavy cuts as they can exit chips very well
What are three a four fluted end mills good for?
They can be used at higher feed rates but have less room for exiting chips so they can not take as heavy of a cut
Is the feed rate on fly cutters fast or slow?
It is slow due to there only being one cutting edge. They do some with more cutting inserts to allow for faster feeds
