*Could unsuccessful due to mud/bad conditions on no man’s land
*Exposed to enemy gunfire

Mass shelling of enemy
*If enemy is hid well in dugouts, they could be ok
*Tended to tangled up in barbed wire, made it harder to cross
Creeping Barrage
Shelling enemy as men follow behind
*Provided troops with cover
*If artillery got calculations wrong, could shell own troops
Mining
Digging under enemy trenches to plant bombs
*Took a long time
*Dangerous if bombs went off prematurely/or caught
Prelimary bombardment
Intense shelling of enemy before launching attack
*Enemy knew when to expect an attack, often ready defensively
Night time patrols
Designed to seize prisoners and gather information
*Navigating no man’s land at night was difficult/dangerous
