- Participants volunteered intorduced to grey lab coat (Mr Wallace)(stooge)
- took place at Yale uni - trusted
-someone was learner (confederate) someone was teacher (participant) - learner was strapped to chair with electrical shocks connected in another room - teacher would deliver shocks when question answered wrong from cpshcom genterator (highest 450v)
- higher the voltage the more confederate badly responded in pain
- teacher would stop to ask questions to lab coat and he would instruct to keep going

-65% of obedience rates of those who shocked up to 450v, many showed distress (verbally, twitching, giggling)
-when teacher threatened to leave, experimenter would prod with ‘please continue’ ‘no other choice’

‘Germans are different’ is false - used 40 ordinary Americans and high percentage shows we all obey to authority
