Q

Give a summary of the procedure used by Milgram

A

-Participant would draw a rigged card to be a Teacher
-After seeing this they would watch the ‘learner ‘ get strapped down to a chair with electrodes on
-Then a word pair task would be carried out where before it begins the participant would read out a list of word pairs that the ‘learner’ had to recall later in the experiment, during the experiment the teacher would say one of the words ten give four options for the ‘learner’ to match i t with.
-Then a sample shock of 45V would be administered to the participant to convince them that the shocks wer real
-Every time the ‘learner’ got an answer wrong a shock would be administered by the participant increasing by 15V each time all the way up to 450V
-Once the shocks reached 300V the ‘learner’ would start kicking on the wall, after 315v did the ame then after that they had no response to any of the uestions.
-If te participant showed unwillingness thee were four set pros said by the experimenter in their lab coat

Q

Outline the quantitative findings from Milgram research

A

-65% of ll participants obeyed and went to 450V
-Alll 40 people went up to 300V
-5 refused to continue after 300V
-9 more stopped by 375V

Q

Outline why there were high levels f obedience

A

-Partcipant believed that the Lerner had voluntarily submitted himself as well
-The experiment took place at Yale university good reputation
-Participants were assured that the shocks were painful but not dangerous

Q

Outdone why there were high levels of tension in the study

A

-participants were give very little time for reflection
-demands from experimenter and te calls for help from the victim were very different
-had to respond to demands from two differing views
