Background?
Milgram believed that obedience involved giving up individual judgement in the face of some external social pressure

To see how far people would go in obeying in authority figure, even if it went against their moral code

Method
The teacher had to give increasingly severe electric shock, ranging from 15 to 450 V each time the learner got a wrong word Pair
What happened at 300 V
The learner began to bang on the wall and refused to answer the questions 
What happened if the teacher showed reluctance to continue
The experimenter gave a series of verbal prompts to encourage them to continue
Results
All participants went to 300 V and 65% went to 450 V
Conclusion
People find it difficult to resist someone they are seeing as having authority. Inhumane acts are not only completed by evil people. If the circumstances are right ordinary people are capable of inhumane acts, people obey because of situation or factors and to see themselves as an agent of authority figure.
