immigrant who applies for permition to stay in a country because they have left their country in order to avoid percecution
what is a refugee
immigrant who has been given permition to stay in a country because they have suffered prosecution in their own county

what does barriers to migration mean
`circumstances that make it difficult to migrate
what are the barriers to migration
cultural=differance in dress, language, and culture may prevent people from migrating
physical=locations whith extreme climates may be less attractive to migrants
financial=the cost of migrating may prevent people from migrating
political=people are less likely to move to an area with an undecromatic country, one with an unstable government or at war
personal=fear of the unknown , lack of family connections may prevent people from migrating to a country
what is mass migration
the movement of a large number of people from one place to another this usually happens when a government or organisation organised the movement of people to another place
what is voluntary migration
when individuals make the decision to move without influence from the government
what is forced migration
when people are forced to migrate even if they do not wish to do so

how does migration impact the population of the source region
those who migrate are most likely to be aged 18-30 which can leave the source region with an ageing population
how does migration impact the population of the destination region
immigrants are usually attracted to wealthiest areas which are usually cities this can increase the population size in the cities which can lead to unwanted effects such as rising rent prices as the need for accomodation rises
how does migration effect the economy in the source region
as the population decreased there is less demand for goods and services which makes the area less attractive to buisnesses this creates a vicious cycle
how does migration effect the economy in the destination region
migrants may bring skills with them that are scarce in the destination region and the increased number of people increases the need for goods and services
how does migration effect society in the source region
as the population decreases their may be a difference in the number of men and women which will encourge further immigration as people leave to find a partner
how does migration effect socierty in the destination region
migrants from different countries can enrich society of the destination region the culture of the migrant groups contributes to and understanding of different ethnicities and cultures
