Aspects -
1. Restrain Soviets with moving barriers
2. Self-Restrain US actions to let the Soviets collapse
Problems

2. Democracies makes it hard to Restrain, hard to justify for voters
Identify and briefly describe THREE results from lack of sufficient troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003 onward) (Lecture 7)
- Unguarded borders let foreign fighters into Iraq
- No Lawful presence to reconstruct infrastructure
- Prisons had horrendous guard ratio (20:1)
- Weapons Depots were left unguarded (IED’s, civilians can fight back)
Explaining the end of the Cold War: precipitating, intermediate and deep causes (be able to list and describe TWO, and what level of deep-intermediate-precipitating they are)
- Intermediate - Soviets did stretch their resources and the costs made the Soviet system crumble
- Precipitating - Reagan inspired Europe to be free, fight back against Soviets
- Deep - Soviet system was too rigid to respond to global changes
Name and describe ONE cause of the First World War, make sure to identify which level of analysis that cause can be placed upon and/or which level of ‘depth’ (deep-intermediate-precipitating). Additionally, identify ONE other ‘important feature’ or ‘important result’ of the First World War and describe in one sentence WHY it was important, according to lecture.
Cause - Precipitating - Franz Ferdinand, prince of Austria-Hungary, was assassinated. Made Aus-Hung declare war on Russia
Cause - Intermediate - Alliances between many countries led to chainganging into the war
Result - Racial equality in the US. PoC saw how France treated PoC equally, and came back to the US to overthrow Jim Crow Laws.
Result - Treaty of Versailles - set up stage for WWII and gave the Big Four lots more power internationally
