What are the four assumptions of Liberalism?
A
- Freedom of Individual (Liberty under the law, representation, etc)
- Progressivism (improve relations over time)
- Self-interest leads to cooperation (Contact leads to mutually vested interest)
- Problem-solving theory - causal analysis and progress

What are the three forms of Liberalism?
A
- Commercial/economic (free trade and financial institutions)
- Institutionalism (transparency and neorealism)
- Political (Democratic Peace theory, regime of state)

What are the three problems with Economic Liberalism?
A
- Money/good are not the only things traded
- Under-determined - liberal peace only reinforced by political and international organizations
- Inequality, Globalism, and stigmatism generates discontent

What are the 5 problems with Democratic Peace Theory?
A
- Overdetermined (many variables)
- Insignificant (war is unlikely, democracy is new)
- Transnational States are likely to go to war over authoritarian regimes
- Democracies can e very war prone (high gov trust, patriotism)
- Defining Democracy and War is slippery

- States only worry about absolute gains
- Liberalism - states don’t measure themselves against others
- Neorealist - states worry about relative gains
