Representational/Symbolic (Later developing) - used to refer to something or indicate meaningful lang. Ex: waving= bye or singing and doing gestures of itsy bitsy spider
Deictic- used to call attention to an object or action (early development) ex: pointing, brining a parent to an object

an action used to communicate w/o symbols
ex: facial expression, body movements, eye gaze
Pre-symbolic
the skills used before symbolic communication
