Great Compromise

A

Agreement reached at the Constitutional Convention as leaders replaced the Articles of Confederation. The great compromise made the legislative branch have two houses. One house with equal representation–the senate (2 per state). A 2nd house with representation based on population (House of Representatives)

A

Agreement that allowed southern states to count ⅗ of their slaves when calculating population totals to determine how many seats a state will get in the House of Representatives

Whiskey Rebellion

A

Protest by Pennsylvania farmers who refused to pay a tax on whiskey as a result of a law passed by Congress. This challenged George Washington’s presidential authority. Washington used the military to end the rebellion and collect the tax.

A

Part of Alexander Hamilton’s plan to help pay off the national debt the US had after the Revolutionary war. Bank also gave US Farmers and businessmen loads to create economic growth

Response to the Whiskey Rebellion

A

George Washington’s response showed that the New Federal Government would not tolerate violent disobedience of the law. If you do not like the law, vote for new lawmakers to make changes, until then, obey the law.
