Complete set of genes that an organism possesses
Genome
Proportion of observed variance in a group of individuals that can be explained or accounted for by genetic variance
Heritability
The selection of desired heritable characteristics in order to improve future generations
Eugenics
Proportion of observed variance in a group of individuals attributable to (non-genetic) environmental variance
Environmentality
Statistic used in genetics that estimates the degree of variation in a phenotypic trait in a population that is due to genetic variation between individuals in that population
Heritability
Inherited solutions to survival and reproductive problems posed by hostile forces of nature
Adaptations
Members of the same sex compete with each other for sexual access to members of the other sex
IntrAsexual Competition
Members of one sex choose a mate based on their preferences for particular qualities in a mate
IntErsexual Competition
All mental processes are not spontaneous but are determined by the unconscious or preexisting mental complexes
Psychic Determinism
Contains thoughts, feelings, and images about which you are presently aware
Conscious
Contains information you are not presently thinking about but can easily be retrieved and made conscious

Operating based on desire for immediate gratification
Pleasure Principle (id)
Functioning without logical rules of conscious thought or anchor in reality
Primary Process Thinking (id)
Something unavailable is conjured up and the image of it is temporarily satisfying
Wish Fulfillment
Operating based on desires of the id which need to be satisfied in a manner that is socially appropriate and realistic
Reality Principle (Ego)
Functioning based on development and devising of strategies for problem solving and obtaining satisfaction
Secondary Process Thinking (Ego)
Unpleasant state that signals that things are not right and something must be done
Anxiety
Process of preventing unacceptable thoughts, feelings, memories, or urges from reaching conscious awareness
Repression
Insisting that things are not the way they seem, refusing to see the facts
Denial
Threatening or unacceptable impulse is unconsciously redirected to a less threatening target
Displacement
Generating acceptable reasons for outcomes that seem unacceptable
Rationalization
To silence an unacceptable urge, engage in behaviour of an opposite urge
Reaction Formation
See in others the unwanted traits and desires we possess
Projection
Channel unacceptable sexual or aggressive instincts into socially desirable activities
Sublimation
Client is encouraged to let mind wander and say whatever comes to mind
