Midterm Flashcards
What are the normal physiological changes in bone density?
Destructive (resorptive): Ageing, Disuse Atropy
What are the abnormal pathological changes in bone density?
Decreased - osteoclastic - lytic - destructive
Increased - osteoblastic - sclerotic - productive
Mixed
What can cause a generalized bone tissue destruction pattern?
Serum Ca2+ levels
Nutritional Dz
Disuse atrophy
What can cause a localized lesion of bone tissue destruction?
Tumor
Infection
What type of bone destructive pattern will metabolic dz give you? What dz’s?
Generalized
Abnormal serum Ca2+ levels
2-renal/nutritional-HPT = osteopenia
What will you see on rads w/ disuse atrophy?
Thin cortices & reduced bone density
Bone tissue distruction from a localized region can be seen when on x-ray? What may be a better modality?
7-10 days after insult
30-60% of mineral content lost to visualized
Scintigraphy may show sooner
What is this destructive pattern?
local monostotic
