Are non-violent. Founder: Muhammed. Believe in an after life. If a person died they would be judged to go to heaven or hell

Began in India 2000 b.c.e. No founder. Believe in reincarnation, the divinity of Vedas, karma, and polytheism. They believe in one main source of power: Brahman. Caste system
Hinduism
Began in the 5th century b.c.e. Founder: Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha). Some believe in the divine other do not. Those who practice this do not believe in God and they worship Buddha out of respect. Believe in reincarnation but it’s not the same soul coming back. Nirvana
Buddhism
One of the newest faith. Originated: India. Founder: Guru Nanak. They do not believe in an afterlife or heaven or hell. When the soul is pure they will join God. Believe that good or bad actions in this life determine the life form into which soul takes rebirth. Believe in one God, does not have a name. Their purpose is to have a good relationship with God. Reject caste system
Sikhism
Started in China. Founder: Lal-Tzu. Believe in multiple gods and that human beings have no soul. Don’t care about the after life care more about life while living. Believe In a force called Tao or Chi. Symbol: yin and yang. When they die the energy is released into the world
Taoism
Usually use the name Yahweh for God. Anthropomorphic view of God. Basic framework for Torah
Yahwist(J)
Usually use the name Elohim for God. Stories for northern kingdom point of view. Emphasis on Abraham and monarchy
Elohist(E)
Comes from Greek “2nd law”. Emphasis on morality and the law. History shown with a cycle of fidelity to the covenant and punishment by YHWH for sin
Deuteronomist(D)
Refers to God as Elohim. Known for genealogies, numbers and date, and proper way of worship. Latest of tradition put into writing

She also sings a victory song after the children of Israel cross the Red Sea. One of the few biblical story that shows a women as a prayer leader
Miriam
one of the few women with her own book in the bible. Was the Moabite women who stayed with her mother-in-law Naomi. Her simple act of obedience brings us a story of love

she succeeds in stopping an invasion by the Assyrians when no one else could. Her name means Jewish women, women that served God with faith, courage, and decisive action

a prophetess, served as Israel’s Judge ( military leader) when no men were willing to lead. Her victory song is probably one of the oldest texts in the bible. Is one of the few women to be shown as a strong warrior in the Old Testament
Deborah
a former prostitute and dyer of cloths who lived in the walls of Jericho during the days of Joshua. She hid the Jewish spies in her home while the men of Jericho were searching for them. She marries a Jewish man and becomes the mother of Boaz. Boaz was the husband of Ruth and we’re both Great-Great Grandparents of David
Rahab
foretells of messiah who will lead Israel to peace and justice. Predicts “anointed one” will come from Bethlehem
Micah
was rival to King Ahab. Preached against worshipping false Gods and treatment of the poor. Next to moses he is seen as the greatest of the Old Testament prophets. Is also featured in the New Testament. Known for bible passage about finding in the small things

young successor of Elijah. Known for the many miracles he performed
Elisha
was a priest and prophet. Main message is personal responsibility for personal sin and goodness. Had visions of 4 attributes of God: courage, strength, swiftness, intelligence
Ezekiel
main message is that the worship of God must be shown in concrete actions. Preached against the gap between the rich and the poor
Amos
largest prophetic book. Main theme is of repentance and coming of the Messiah. Predicts Babylon exile and that they will be restored by the virgin birth of messiah

Promised that God was going to redeem his people. Refers to a suffering messiah as a suffering servant. Spoke of God suffering with humanity

was native to Israel. Main message was speaking up against sin. Compared Israel’s people turning away to adultery, but promised that even with them turning away God would never abandon them
