The one and only temple was in Jerusalem. This is where the Jews offered sacrifices to God. A holy place where Jews believed God dwelled in a special way. Standing during New Testament times was the third one constructed in Jerusalem
Were sacred acts. You didn’t mix with social classes or people you didn’t know. If you ate with someone who was a winner or unsure you would become unpure. Common meal was fish and bread

Were conservatives. Clung to the most ancient Hebrew traditions and rejected all novelties of belief and ritual. Didn’t believe in life after death, since it was not mentioned in the Torah. Members of wealthy aristocracy, ruling upper class
Sadducees
Were special class of priest they offered sacrifices like other priest, they were also responsible for the organization and administration of the temple
Chief Priest
Faithful Jews. Loosely organized, sometimes breaking up into factions and joining newly formed groups. Would harass the roman army, sporadic uprising and occasional guerrilla warfare. Fought for jewish independence from Roman rule. Believed that Palestine was a theocracy, they believed that they were god’s chosen nation
Zealots
Separated themselves from society completely and Wendy to live celibate and abstinent life in camps in the desert. Follow the law of moses strictly. Preparing for the coming of God. Rejected anyone who didn’t belong to their sects. Called themselves “sons of light”. Were warlike like the zealots. John the Baptist was most likely influenced by this group
