Examines basic concepts

Study physical + biological events in nature
Empiricism
Views the mind as a blank slate that gradually grows with knowledge & observation
Began in the 17th century
However, we now view nature AND nurture rather than nature OR nurture
Science
A method for learning about reality through systematic observation and experimentation
Critical Thinking
The ability to think clearly, rationally, & independently
Peer Review
The process of having other experts examine research prior to its publication
