What is the bovidae family?
They have horns that are never shed. Horns are larger on males than females. (Bison, goats, yak) (Order Artiodactyla) has a very strong jawbone
What is the Cervidae family?
They have antlers that shed yearly. Only the males grown horn (Except for Caribou) (Dear, Moose, elk) (Order Artiodactyla) has a tapered skull, crow head?
What is the Antilocapridae family?
Have forked horns, the outer sheath is shed annually.(ProngHorn) (Order Artiodactyla) have a gap between their two jaws at the front
What is the felidae family?
rounded flat faces, facial whiskers, large eyes, and large ears, do not typically hunt in groups (exception Lions). (cats, lions, leopards). Skulls look like aliens, triangely?.
What is the suidae family?
Omnivores and have upper tusks. (pigs, hogs, boars) (Order Artiodactyla) flat back of the head, almost like a line
What is the Equidae family?
Large grazing animals, (horse, donkey, mules) (Order Artiodactyla)
What does Diurnal mean?
Active during the day
What is the Mephitidae family?
From the latin word “Bad Odour”, omnivores that sleep through much of the winter. Posses stink glands. (Skunks, Badgers). Skulls look similar to felidae but more rounded at the top of the skull above the eyes and elongated.
What is the Mustelidae family?
Elongated bodies, posses stink glands near anus and smell like skunk.(ferrets, weasels) Have a flat long skull. the nose is basically flat
What is the Procyonidae family?
Omnivores often considered a pest, (racoons) Skull looks almost identical to Mephitidaes but have the rounded part at the back of the skull.
What is the Ursidae family?
Heavy overall structure and wide zygomatic arch. (bears), Low crown molars They have molars that look similar to human molars.
What is the Canidae family?
dogs, wolves, coyote’s, have a kind of pointed head, very narrow. shoe?
What order is Artiodactyla?
cloven hooved mammals (Bison, mountain goats)
What order is Carnivora?
typically animals that only eat meat but there are a few exceptions. (Lions, Bears, dogs)
