Midt- Lec. 13 Forearm/wrist Flashcards
What are the muscles in the anterior compartment of the forearm
Most: FLEXOR or PRONATOR
Pronator Teres, pronator quadratus, flexor carpi radialis (superficial layer), flexor carpi ulnaris (superficial layer), palmaris longus (superficial layer), flexor digitorum superficialis (intermediate layer) flexor digitorum profundus (deep layer), flexor pollicis longus (deep layer)
Actions of “Flexor” and “Palmaris” muscles of forearm
Flexes wrist
Actions of “Pronator” forearm muscles
Pronates forearm
What are the muscles in the posterior compartment of the forearm
Supinator, brachioradialis, extensor carpi radialis longus (superficial layer), extensor carpi radialis brevis (superficial layer), extensor carpi ulnaris (superficial layer), extensor digitorum (superficial layer), extensor digiti minimi (superficial layer), extensor indicis (deep layer), abductor pollicis longus (deep layer), extensor pollicis longus (deep layer), extensor pollicis brevis (deep layer)
Muscles that flex / extend the wrist/digits
Flexion: - flex usually in name Extension: - exten usually in name Carpi = wrist Digit/poll = digits
Muscles that abduct and adduct the wrist
Abduction of the wrist moves the hand toward the radius
- caused by the 3 radialis muscles
Addiction of the wrist moves the hand toward the Ulna
- caused by the 2 ulnaris muscles
Attachments of the Deep Anterior muscles of the forearm
O: anterior surfaces of ulna and radius
I: phalanges
Attachments of the Superior Anterior muscles
O: medial epicondyle of the humerus
I: metacarpals and phalanges
What action do anterior forearm muscles typically do
Flexion
What are the carpal bones
Starting at the thumb
- Scaphoid
- Lunate
- Triquetrum
- Pisiform
- Trapezium
- Trapezoid
- Capitate
- Hamate
