Midfoot pain after traume Flashcards
AP film of midffot shows
The AP view
This view shows that the:
Medial border of the second metatarsal is aligned with the medial border of the middle cuneiform
Lateral border of the first metatarsal is aligned with the lateral border of the medial cuneiform
The oblique view of midfoot shows
The oblique view
This view shows that the:
Lateral border of third metatarsal aligned with lateral border of lateral cuneiform
Medial border of fourth metatarsal may be aligned with medial border of cuboid. However, a small step-off is allowed
what is a lisfranc injury?
s fracture dislocation pattern involves the tarsometatarsal joint. It is a combined bony and ligamentous injury.
What is a chopart fracture?
This is a rare fracture dislocation pattern which is an intertarsal dislocation between the hindfoot and midfoot tarsal bones.
what does a missed lisfranc cause?
Instability and pain in the midfoot.
what causes a lizfranc injury?
high energy trauma
axial loading
direct blow to joint - crush injury
twist injury
Divergent (separation of first and second metatarsals); more than WHAT separation between bases of first and second metatarsals
2mm
Homolateral meaning
(all five metatarsals displaced in one direction)
The Chopart fracture dislocation (Fig 1) is
rare. It is effectively an intertarsal dislocation.
There is midtarsal dislocation, usually between talonavicular and calcaneocuboid joints
The foot is usually displaced medially (but this can occur laterally).
How can a chopart fracture occur?
An example would be a foot trapped in a stirrup as the rider falls from a horse.
Isolated fractures of the cuboid are
rare.
What is a Lisfranc injury
Loss of normal alignment between the second metatarsal base and the medial cuneiform is diagnostic
