includes self-satisfaction, acceptance, esteem, and
congruence or discrepancy between self and ideal
self.
Self-concept
are maternal attitudes or
beliefs about child rearing.
Child-Rearing attitude
refers to mother’s and father’s
perception of their prior health, current health, health
outlook, resistance-susceptibility to illness, health
worry concern, sickness orientation and rejection of
the sick role.
Health status
is a trait in which there is specific proneness
to perceive stressful situations as dangerous or
threatening, and as a situation-specific state.
Anxiety
refers to individual’s view of the
activities and relationships between the family and its
subsystems and broader social units.
Family functioning
contributes to the process of
maternal role attainment in a way that cannot be
duplicated by any other person. The interaction helps
diffuse tension and facilitate maternal role attainment.
Father or Intimate Partner
is the perception of the mate
including intended and actual values, goals, agreements
between the two. The maternal attachment to the infant
develops within the emotional field of the parent’s
relationship.
Mother-Father Relationship
A dynamic profession with three foci: health promotion
and prevention of illness, providing care for those who
need professional assistance to achieve their optimal
level of health and functioning, and research to enhance
the knowledge base for providing excellent nursing
care.
Nursing
- Refers to the self or core self.
- Viewed self as separate from the roles that are played.
- The core self evolves from a cultural contexts and
determines how situations are defined and shaped. - Self esteem and confidence are important in attainment
of the maternal role - Mother as a separate self interacts with her infant and
with the father or her significant others - The mother is both influential and is influenced by both of
them.
Person
- The mother’s and father’s perception of their prior
health, current health, health outlook, resistance-
susceptibility to illness, health worry or concern,
sickness orientation and rejection of the sick role.
- Family health status is affected negatively by
antepartum stress.
Health
- The ecological interacting environment in which
maternal role attainment develops. - The development of roles/person cannot be
considered apart from the environment; there is
mutual accommodation between the developing
person and the changing properties of the immediate
settings.
