Ethnic groups
Ethnic groups refer to a group of people who share common cultural, racial, or ancestral traits. These traits can include shared language, religion, customs, traditions, and history.
Kurds
Kurds are an ethnic group primarily located in the Middle East, particularly along the borders of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Armenia. They have their own distinct language and culture.
Arabs
An ethnic group primarily located in the Middle East and North Africa region. They are known for their shared language, Arabic, and cultural heritage, including traditions, customs, and history.
Persians
Also known as Iranians, are an ethnic group primarily located in Iran and share a common language, Persian (Farsi).
Terrorism
the use of violence and intimidation, often targeting civilians, in order to achieve political, religious, or ideological objectives.
Extremism
holding extreme political or religious views and advocating for radical actions.
Sunni
A branch of Islam that believes in following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Sunnis make up the majority of Muslims worldwide.
Shia
A branch of Islam that believes in the Imamate, which is the appointment of leaders (Imams) who have a divine authority.
Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)
a group of oil-producing countries that collaborate to coordinate policies and stabilize oil markets.
Hydraulic fracking
a process used to extract natural gas or oil from underground rock formations.
Strait of Hormuz
a narrow waterway located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. An essential shipping route for oil tankers, carrying a significant portion of the world’s oil exports
Suez Canal
a man-made waterway located in Egypt that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. It provides a direct shipping route between Europe and Asia.
Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO)
Organization that represents the Palestinian people in their struggle for self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Founded in 1964
Population Density
the number of people living in a particular unit of land area.
Sparsely Populated
Areas that have a low population number
