Dynasty

Empire

Mandate of Heaven
An ancient Chinese belief that a ruler’s power is granted by the gods and can be withdrawn if they fail to govern justly and responsibly.
Dynasty cycle
The pattern of rise, decline, and replacement of ruling families or dynasties.
Bureaucracy
A system of government in which professionals and officials carry out the tasks of administration.
Confucianism
A system of philosophical and ethical teachings founded by Confucius, emphasizing the importance of moral values and social harmony.
Silk Road
An ancient network of trade routes that connected China with the rest of the world, facilitating the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures.
Civil service exams
A system in which government jobs are awarded based on merit and performance in exams rather than through political influence or wealth
Zheng He
Zheng He was a Chinese explorer and diplomat who led several voyages to explore new lands and establish diplomatic relations during the Ming dynasty.
Forbidden City
a palace complex located in Beijing, China. It served as the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties
Grand Canal
A vast waterway in China, built during the Sui Dynasty and expanded during the Song Dynasty, connecting the Yellow River and the Yangtze River.
Nomadic
Refers to a lifestyle where people move from place to place rather than settling in one location.
Genghis Khan
The founder and leader of the Mongol Empire, known for his military tactics and conquests.
Khanate
A political entity or region ruled by a Khan, which was the title given to Mongol leaders.
Legalism
The belief or system of strict adherence to laws and regulations, often with little consideration for individual circumstances or compassion.
