Physical Development
In this stage, women will experience in the menopause (see the previous deck). Some women may try hormone replacement surgery (HRT) where oestrogen is prescribed to replace the decline and relieve the symptoms.
As adults grow old, they will show signs of ageing such as greying hair or loss of muscle tone and strength. Men may also notice hair loss and some may gain weight more easily.
Intellectual Development
Crystallised Intelligence:
Is dependent on accumulated knowledge and experience based on the information, skills and strategies we have gathered throughout our lifetime.
Fluid Intelligence:
Is more dependent on basic information -processing skills begin to decline, this may be prior to middle adulthood.
A person cognitive processing speed slows down as does problem-solving skills and dividing attention.
