A

Are at the peak of their physical ability -this includes muscle strength, reaction time, sensory abilities and cardiac functioning.
Primary Aging - biological factors
Secondary Aging - controllable factors
Can be characterised by changes in skin, vision, and reproductive capability.
40+ characterised by a decline in vision, hearing and immune system functioning.
Perimenopause - the period of a woman’s life shortly before the occurrence of the menopause.

Intellectual Development

A

Individuals apply their knowledge, skills, and experience gained through life. This allows them to think logically and find realistic answers. Most likely at this stage, they will be working at jobs where they will be using their skills to solve problems.

Language Development

A

As an adult, you begin to learn new words which are a lot more extravagant, however, for the most part, you aren’t learning a language or learning your own one as you did previously.
It becomes a lot more difficult to learn a new language as puberty is very big in this change. Before puberty is called the critical age for when learning languages as you are first being introduced to languages.

Language Development // The Critical Age Hypothesis

A

The Critical Age Hypothesis is the idea that one’s language acquisition ability is linked to the stages of brain maturation. With certain mental processes, ‘lateralisation’ occurring the brain starts this critical age at 2 and ends around puberty.
An example is Genie -the feral child.

Social Development

A

People are beginning to spend more time on their education. Also when it comes to starting a family on average men and women are beginning to have their families later on. Also, increasing numbers are choosing to stay single or childless. Also, more women are pursuing careers and men are getting involved with childcare.
