What should be done to liquids if cooking them in the microwave?

To ensure even distribution of heat throughout
What would happen if a liquid was not stirred?
Hot spots may occur whereby some parts get very hot and others remain cold
How could hot spots occur in a liquid?
If they have not been stirred during heating
What should be done to the skin of dense foods?
They should be pierced
What should always be pierced on dense foods when cooking?
The skin of dense foods
Why should the skins of dense foods be pierced?
To allow steam to escape and to prevent them from exploding
Give an example of a food who’s skin needs to be pierced.
Potatoes
What should be done in relation to the chosen dish?

Choose appropriate dishes such as glass or Pyrex in which to cook the food
Avoid foil containers or metal-trimmed dished as they will reflect the microwaves and damage the magnetron preventing the microwave from working
