Q

What does light microscopes do ?

A

Light microscopes use light and lenses to form an image of a specimen and magnify it. They let us see individual cells and large sub cellular structures, like nuclei

Q

What do electron microscopes do ?

A

Electron microscopes use electrons instead of light to form an image. They have a much higher magnification than light microscopes

Q

What is the formula for calculating magnification?

A

Magnification = image size
—————-
real size

But if you were to calculate the image size or real size you can rearrange the equation by using the formula triangle:

                          Image size
                    —————————
               Magnification x real size

Q

How do you do standard form?

A

The number needs to be in between 1 and 10 so the decimal point needs to move after the ‘2’.

  1. 0025 -3
  2. 5 =2.5x10

Count how many places the decimal point has moved, this is the power of 10 don’t forget the minus sign because the decimal point has moved to the right.
