Cell Flashcards
What are all living things made up of ?
All living things are made up of cells
What are the two type of cells ?
Cells can either be prokaryotic or eukaryotic
What are eukaryotic cells ?
Eukaryotes are made up of eukaryotic cells
What is a prokaryote ?
A prokaryote is made up of prokaryotic cells (it’s a singled cell organism)
What features do animal cells have ?
Nucleus- contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
Cytoplasm- gel like substance that allows chemical reactions to take place
Cell membrane- holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out
Mitochondria- where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place.
Ribosomes- where the proteins are made in the cell
What features do plant cells have ?
Rigid cell wall- made of cellulose, it supports and strengthens the cell
Permanent vacuole- contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts
Chloroplasts- where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plant. (They contain chlorophyll which absorbs the light needed for photosynthesis)
Mitocondria- where the reactions for aerobic respiration take place
Ribosomes- where the proteins are made in the cell
What features do bacteria cells have ?
Cell membrane- controls what goes in and out
Cell wall- strengthens and supports the cell
Cytoplasm- gel like substances that allows chemical reactions to happen
Plasmids- small rings of DNA
THEY DO NOT HAVE A NUCLEUS
